LGNA International, a global media and communications company, has joined mourners in Nigeria and across the world in expressing their grief over the demise of renowned businessman and Founder of DAAR Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi. The sad news of Chief Dokpesi’s passing was confirmed on May 29.
In a statement issued by the CEO of LGNA International, Tunde Jakande, in Lagos on Tuesday, the company expressed deep sadness at the loss of Chief Raymond Dokpesi. The statement acknowledged his significant contributions to the media industry in Nigeria and beyond.
Chief Dokpesi played a pivotal role in introducing private radio and television stations to Nigeria, revolutionizing mainstream broadcasting with the establishment of Raypower FM and AIT (Africa Independent Television). These platforms provided opportunities for countless journalists and on-air personalities to develop and refine their skills.
Describing Chief Dokpesi as charismatic, pragmatic, and down to earth, Jakande remarked on the late businessman’s unassuming nature and simplistic lifestyle. He shared personal anecdotes of living opposite Chief Dokpesi’s residence in Victoria Island, recounting conversations with the Hausa mallams who guarded his modest duplex and their admiration for their boss.
LGNA International extended its condolences to the entire Dokpesi family and DAAR Communications, particularly expressing deep sympathy to Mrs. Tosin Dokpesi. Jakande revealed that Tosin had been scheduled to serve as one of the judges at the finals of the LGNA All Public Primary Schools Lagos Debate competition.
While commiserating with the Dokpesi family during this difficult time, Jakande offered prayers for strength and resilience. He concluded, “We pray that God grants you the fortitude to navigate through this challenging period.”
