Residents of Kosofe Federal Constituency have appealed to the Federal Government Ministry, Departments, and agencies for equipment to be provided for an 80-bed Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) building that was commissioned without proper equipment in Kosofe, Lagos. The facility, which was facilitated through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals by former House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, was officially handed over to the Lagos State government during a commissioning event.
During the handover, Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye openly urged Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, who was represented at the occasion by Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, to equip and manage the facility. The initiative received commendation from Hon. Ademola Sikiru Adekoya Alebiosu, the Lagos State People’s Democratic Party Ex-Officio, who acknowledged Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye for his efforts in identifying and facilitating the critical life-saving project. However, Alebiosu criticized the contractor for building the hospital without essential features such as fencing and interlocking, but most importantly, for failing to equip the facility.
Alebiosu appealed to the relevant federal ministries, departments, and agencies to provide the necessary equipment to complete the project. He highlighted that similar projects facilitated by former Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamilla, and other lawmakers across the state had been fully equipped. He questioned why the Kosofe facility was left as an ordinary building without the required medical equipment. Alebiosu emphasized the importance of equipping the PHC to ensure effective healthcare services for the people of Kosofe.
In a related development, it was discovered that the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had facilitated the construction of a fully equipped three-story hospital named Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital in Surulere, Lagos. The hospital, located at N1, Iyun Street, has been equipped with two ambulances to respond to medical emergencies through the emergency medical services (EMS). It is ready for Commissioning as of June 20, 2023.
Prior to the commissioning of the controversial 80-bed PHC in Kosofe, the Lagos State House of Assembly House Committee on Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) had conducted an inspection of the facility. However, the details of their report have not been made public.
