Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of his constituents by distributing food packs to over 6,000 beneficiaries. The distribution took place simultaneously across the various five Local Governments, and Eleven Local Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos East.

The recipients of the food packs included individuals from different walks of life, such as people with physical disabilities, widows, the elderly, unemployed youth, and women. The distribution aimed to alleviate the hardships faced by these vulnerable groups and provide essential food items to sustain them during challenging times.

The event, held at the senator’s Constituency office in Ikorodu on June 25, witnessed the presence of esteemed stakeholders and beneficiaries, including royal fathers, community leaders, the League of Imams, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and appreciation as Senator Abiru expressed his profound thanks to his constituents for their support during the 2023 general elections, where he was re-elected as the representative of Lagos East under the All Progressives Congress.

Highlighting his commitment to continuous engagement with his constituents, Senator Abiru pledged to hold such gatherings on a quarterly basis, ensuring that the needs and concerns of the community are addressed promptly. The distribution of food packs was extended to other areas within the Senatorial District, namely Kosofe, Somolu, Ibeju Lekki, and Epe, simultaneously.

This initiative builds upon Senator Abiru’s previous efforts in supporting his constituents. In 2020, he commenced the distribution of N5000 bi-monthly through the COVID-19 Financial Support Scheme, benefitting over 2,800 individuals. The food pack distribution aimed to reach those who may not have been covered by the earlier scheme, ensuring that a wider range of vulnerable individuals received assistance.

Senator Abiru, known for his legislative achievements with the sponsorship of approximately 20 bills and numerous motions in the 9th National Assembly, has consistently shown his commitment to infrastructure development as well. He facilitated the stabilization process of the 32-km Ikorodu-Itokin Road, setting the stage for its full rehabilitation in the near future.

Recently, Senator Abiru garnered further recognition for his dedication to progress and innovation. He attracted Vice President Kassim Shettima and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to the launch of the SAIL Innovation Laboratory, the first technology hub in Lagos, located in Ikorodu. The hub, a joint effort between Senator Abiru and Co-Creation Nigeria, aims to provide training in the latest technological innovations to empower the youth.

Party leaders and beneficiaries spoke highly of Senator Abiru’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people amidst challenging times. Musibau Shittu, a representative of people with physical disabilities, fervently prayed for the senator and commended his active care for the constituents. Barrister Prince Jamiu Adio Saka, representing a party leader, praised the event, stating that it sets an example worth emulating. He acknowledged Senator Abiru as a valuable talent for Nigeria, highlighting his financial prowess, expertise in economic management, and exceptional delivery of results.
