The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and fans of the late pop singer, Mr. Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who tragically passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Enitan Olukotun, in Lagos on Wednesday, Senator Abiru described the untimely death of Mohbad as deeply painful and devastating. He further called upon relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of Mr. Aloba and ensure that justice prevails.
The statement read, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and fans of the late Mr. Ilerioluwa Aloba (AKA) and the entire Nigerian youth on the passing of the talented artist. It pains me greatly that Mohbad left us at a time when he was on the cusp of fully reaping the rewards of his creativity and the fruits of his burgeoning music career.
“Mohbad’s journey was an inspiring one, breaking free from socio-economic constraints rooted in his family background and achieving international recognition in the highly competitive music industry with hit tracks that resonated across cultures and borders.
“I stand in solidarity with concerned Nigerians, especially the bereaved family and Nigerian youth, in demanding a thorough investigation by the security agencies into the allegations of foul play. Justice must be served.
“Furthermore, I wish to inform Nigerians that I have brought this matter to the attention of the leadership of the Nigerian Senate. Upon the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, I will formally present a motion calling for a comprehensive inquiry into the tragic death of Mohbad.
“As the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, which encompasses Ikorodu, the hometown of Mohbad’s family, I join in mourning the loss of our son, brother, and friend. Mohbad’s legacy will endure. Farewell, The Legend!”
