Hon. Bashiru Saheed Omogbolahan, popularly known as ‘Elewedu,’ the Majority Leader and Councillor representing Ward ‘D’ at the Agboyi-Ketu Legislative Council, continues to demonstrate his commitment to educational initiatives in his constituency. Today, he distributed school uniforms to indigent pupils of Baptist and Orisigun Primary Schools, marking another milestone in his mission to enhance education at the grassroots level.
Recently, Councillor Elewedu provided notebooks and school bags to underprivileged but brilliant pupils attending the four public primary schools within his legislative jurisdiction. These efforts underscore his dedication to improving the educational landscape in the community.
Beyond educational endeavors, Councillor Elewedu has also been actively involved in community development. He distributed sanitation materials to public primary schools and organized the highly anticipated Elewedu Kids Football Cup, involving all ten public primary schools in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
Shifting away from education, the grassroots lawmaker has organized empowerment training sessions for constituents, focusing on the production of disinfectants. He has also distributed toolkits to young artisans, offered cash gifts to market men and women, and initiated periodic unconditional cash transfers to the elderly above the age of 70.
Regarding the distribution of the school uniforms, Councillor Elewedu stated that this intervention was designed to support underprivileged parents. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of these uniforms and urged parents to take ownership of this invaluable educational resource.
Responding to inquiries about the delay in providing materials for the remaining two schools, Ajelogo and Apostolic Primary Schools, the councillor explained that financial constraints were the primary reason. He clarified that the cost of the back-to-school program had exceeded his initial budget, which consisted of saving 40 percent of his monthly proceeds from July up to the present.
However, he assured the community that he would allocate his upcoming September salary to expedite the production of uniforms for indigent students attending the remaining schools.
