The Lagos State House of Assembly has advocated for a thorough review of the administrative guidelines governing Local Governments (LG) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) to ensure good governance and societal progress.
This call for action, supported by the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, underscores the Assembly’s commitment to crafting and revising laws as necessary to meet current needs.
During a plenary session on Thursday, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Community Affairs, introduced the topic. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the governance structures for local governments and LCDAs to align with contemporary realities.
In his address, Hon. Okanlawon expressed concern about reports of the improper acquisition of chieftaincy titles without appropriate regulations. He called for the establishment of suitable guidelines to oversee the process.
Furthermore, the legislator recommended that specific regulations be put in place to govern the number of special advisers and supervisors in local government councils. These proposed changes aim to promote transparency and efficiency in the functioning of local government bodies.
