Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on media organizations to project the country positively in a bid to foster positive perceptions of Nigeria on the global stage. The governor made this appeal during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) to the state’s seat of power in Alausa, Lagos on Tuesday.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of disseminating well-vetted and truthful information. He asserted that such an approach would not only attract foreign investors but also contribute to the overall economic development of the nation.
“Positive public commentaries are crucial for any country’s development. Spreading negative and false news hinders our growth,” stated Governor Sanwo-Olu, commending BON for their professionalism in information dissemination and management.
Addressing the upcoming Culture, Art, and Creative Summit, the governor expressed the state’s commitment to supporting BON. He highlighted the importance of showcasing Lagos positively on a global scale, especially given the recent Grammy nominations for five Nigerian musicians.
Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, the Executive Secretary of BON, outlined the purpose of the visit, seeking the state government’s support for the Culture, Art, and Creative Summit. The summit aims to bring together key stakeholders in the entertainment sector to project Nigeria’s image positively through the creative industry, contributing to the nation’s growth.
“Nigeria is not a pushover in entertainment, and if there is any area giving the country a good image globally, the entertainment industry is one of them,” stated Dr Bamgbose, emphasizing the positive impact of Nigeria’s entertainment sector worldwide.
