Sheikh Harun Eze, an esteemed Islamic scholar, has called upon Muslim faithfuls to embrace the practice of giving zakat as a means to alleviate the current hardships facing Nigeria. Speaking at the Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Afemai Islamic Movement (AIM) in Abuja, Sheikh Eze emphasized the importance of charity and seeking Allah’s mercy amidst socio-economic turmoil.
Addressing a gathering focused on the theme “The Role of a Muslim in mitigating the current socioeconomic situation in Nigeria,” Sheikh Eze identified unemployment, corruption, poverty, and inflation as key factors exacerbating the economic crisis. He underscored the strategic significance of steadfast faith, regular recitation of the Qur’an, patience, and kindness in navigating these challenges.
Highlighting the transformative potential of charity, Sheikh Eze urged Muslims to generously give zakat to the poor and needy, emphasizing its role in reducing hunger and fostering community support. He reminded believers of Allah’s promise that hardship is followed by ease and encouraged them to seek forgiveness as a means of gaining divine love and mercy.
Barrister Fatimah Oyarebu, a member of the movement, echoed the Sheikh’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of increased worship, patience, and kindness towards all humanity, regardless of religious affiliation. Meanwhile, Mallam Nasir Ozama, Chairman of the AIM, appealed to the government to take decisive actions to alleviate the suffering of the populace amidst the prevailing economic hardship.
