Recently, the political landscape in Kosofe has been buzzing with conflicting messages, as supporters and well-wishers of incumbent council Chairman, Moyosore Ogunlewe, flood the area with posts declaring “no vacancy.” However, amidst this assertion, Agboyi Ketu and Ikosi-Isheri LCDAs have advertised vacancies, prompting numerous candidates to throw their hats into the ring.
While both ruling party members and opposition coalitions have the constitutional right to vie for positions, a curious trend has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Traditionally, APC tends to grant incumbents another term, regardless of their performance. This pattern was highlighted by the unexpected emergence of the incumbent chairman during the Farmcity International Chairman, Hon Lanre Carew’s bid for the position, despite reported success in the primary elections.
Observers note the influential role of key APC decision-makers in Kosofe, including Otunba Bushira Alebiosu and Omoba Ademuyiwa Sosanya, whose favorable disposition towards the “no vacancy” stance adds further intrigue to the unfolding dynamics.
As aspirants eyeing chairmanship positions navigate this complex landscape, they must carefully consider these factors, especially the distinct nature of vacancies in Agboyi Ketu and Ikosi-Isheri LCDAs compared to Kosofe. Meanwhile, opposition parties, confident in the impartiality of the Lagos State Electoral Commission (LASIEC), are gearing up to participate in the race.
The political atmosphere in Kosofe remains charged, with aspirants and stakeholders closely monitoring developments as the race for local government leadership intensifies.
