In a recent phone interview with KosofePost online, Comrade Amos Sunday Ojajuni, a resident of Agboyi Ketu LCDA in Kosofe Local Government area, has issued a fervent plea to the government to address escalating insecurity in the region. Ojajuni described the persistent gang wars between various confraternities, which have caused residents to endure sleepless nights.

Reflecting on the past, Ojajuni noted that before 2016, communities such as Owode, Orile, Obanta, Agiliti, Kosofe, Alapere, Akanimodo, Owode Onirin, and Ajegunle were peaceful, allowing residents to sleep soundly. However, the rise of violent supremacy battles among rival groups over the past eight years has forced many residents and landlord associations to relocate to Ikorodu for safety.

“The fear of attacks from cultists has trapped many residents. Those living in Mile 12 can’t safely travel to Owode Under Bridge, and residents of Obanta avoid Agiliti, Ajegunle, and other communities,” Ojajuni lamented. He emphasized that many of the perpetrators are not local residents but continue to bring violence into their neighborhoods, often returning to fight even after arrests.

Ojajuni praised the infrastructure developments led by Mayor Dele Oshinowo but urged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and local council administrators to implement a permanent solution to the recurring clashes. He called for a safe environment where people can conduct their daily activities and businesses without fear.

KosofePost’s investigation revealed that numerous suspects involved in the unrest have been arrested by security agents. However, the whereabouts of many remain unknown, with parents searching for their children in cells, correctional centers, and mortuaries across the state to determine if they are alive or dead.
