Residents of Kosofe and surrounding areas breathed a sigh of relief as the Executive Chairman of the Kosofe Local Government, Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe, commissioned seven road projects in honor of his three-year tenure. This initiative aligns with the theme agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Five roads were unveiled in Mende, with one each in Ojota and Ojudu. Ogunlewe emphasized that these projects were fully funded by the council, highlighting his commitment to serving the community.

“For me, it is rendering service to my people, and that is why we are here,” Ogunlewe said. “I was elected to be their local government chairman, and this is what is expected from me.”

The newly constructed roads in Mende include Abioye Street, Alade Street, Odugbesan Street, Atiba Osbourne Street, and Abbi Street. Additionally, Niyi Ogunleye Street in Ojota and Fedrick Ezenwezu Road in Ojudu were also completed.

“These two roads were in deplorable states, especially Niyi Ogunleye, where the drainages were not structured. We had to fix them,” Ogunlewe explained. “In Fedrick Ezenwezu Road in Ojudu, we installed interlocking to make it durable and long-lasting for motorists.”

Ogunlewe issued a stern warning regarding road maintenance, placing responsibility on local councillors and Community Development Area (CDA) chairpersons if issues arise. Reflecting on his tenure, he noted the completion of about 10 boreholes, with plans to commence work on an additional 10 in the coming weeks. He also highlighted the construction of 36 roads, with an aim to add another 11 soon.

Looking ahead, Ogunlewe intends to focus on improving roads in the Ifako and Oworo areas. He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing optimism for future improvements.

Ashafa Akeem Osundiran, Councilor representing Mende Araromi in Ward E, praised Ogunlewe for addressing long-standing road issues. “The fixed roads in Mende were previously in bad condition. I am happy our Chairman was able to address this,” Osundiran said.

Osundiran assured that he, along with the CDA chairperson, would oversee the maintenance of the newly commissioned roads. He also urged Ogunlewe to address other neglected roads, including Aminu Street down to Ajose, which the chairman promised to tackle within the next two months.
