In a bold move to drive technological advancement and fortify the power sector, Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, has launched the Egbin PowerUp internship programme. This six-month immersive initiative is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the power industry while fostering innovation and excellence.

The Egbin PowerUp programme offers students from diverse tertiary institutions across Nigeria the chance to gain hands-on technical experience at the company’s power plant. It bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enhancing skills, boosting confidence, and sharpening creativity and problem-solving abilities through real-world projects.

Mokhtar Bounour, CEO of Egbin Power, highlighted the programme’s role in preparing young individuals for the future. “At Egbin Power, we believe that investing in our nation’s youth is investing in Nigeria’s future. The Egbin PowerUp programme is a platform for young minds to ignite their passions, hone their skills, and become the driving force behind Nigeria’s energy revolution,” Bounour stated.

The current cohort, which commenced in July, includes students from top institutions such as the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), Caleb University, and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), among others. These participants are from various fields, including Engineering, Applied Industrial Science, Information Technology (IT), and Environment & Safety.

Egbin PowerUp aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, aiming to provide inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. Through such initiatives, Egbin Power continues to invest in the future of Nigeria’s power sector, nurturing the next generation of leaders and contributing to the nation’s progress and prosperity.
