In a way to highlight the progress made by Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos, Prince Adewunmi Adekoyejo, a UK-based Nigerian, has praised the housing development initiatives led by the Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mayor Dele Oshinowo. Adekoyejo circulated a video clip of Oshinowo’s latest housing project, underscoring the significant strides made by some LCDAs compared to other local administrations.
In an exclusive chat with Kosofe Post on Saturday, Adekoyejo, fondly known as “KOYE,” shared the clip accompanied by a text that read, “This is what a Local Government Chairman is commissioning in Lagos, unlike in some places where State Governments celebrate commissioning of ordinary bus stops, and some of our friends are blowing the Governor’s trumpet.”
When asked about the source of the video, KOYE disclosed that he found it on social media platforms in Ogun State, where Mayor Dele Oshinowo’s achievements were being lauded, especially in comparison to what he called “cosmetic projects” being celebrated by other local government officials.
Lagos State’s LCDAs, including Agboyi-Ketu, have been praised for their efficiency and impact, often outperforming their constitutionally recognized parent local governments. The achievements of these LCDAs have sparked public debate, with many citizens urging lawmakers to further empower the LCDAs in the ongoing Local Government administrative law reforms by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
With the ruling party controlling both the Presidency and the National Assembly, citizens are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who championed the creation of the LCDAs almost 20 years ago, to ensure their formal recognition in the Nigerian Constitution.
