As the 2025 Local Government elections approach, Loogun Sunday Jegede, a close ally of former Kosofe Federal Constituency lawmaker Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, has kept political observers guessing with his continued silence on the chairmanship race. While prominent supporters of Agunsoye have thrown their hats into the ring for the chairmanship positions in Agboyi-Ketu and Ikosi-Isheri, Jegede has yet to declare his intentions.

In 2021, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) backing incumbent Ikosi-Isheri chairman Samiat Bada, Jegede, who was then the APC LCDA chairman, contested against her. The primaries turned violent, with Jegede’s supporters suffering injuries during the heated contest. Now, with just nine months to the next local government election, many expected Jegede to use his recent birthday to announce his ambition, but his silence has left many wondering.

Political insiders suggest that the confusion surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly’s attempt to amend local government laws may be causing hesitation among potential candidates.

The proposed changes, which could see local council development areas appoint administrative officers instead of holding elections, have reportedly caused some contenders to shift their focus to the main Kosofe Local Government seat instead.
