The Lagos State Government, through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has launched the Y2025 Training and Empowerment Programme on digital skills, reinforcing its commitment to improving rural livelihoods. The program, focused on website and blog creation, branding for business advertisement, and entrepreneurial development, kicked off on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Hall.

The initiative, championed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and supported by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, aims to equip rural residents with essential digital skills to enhance their careers, businesses, and ventures, fostering self-reliance and economic growth.

Structured into two impactful sessions, the training first delved into branding and niche carving, helping participants define and develop unique business identities. The second session covered blog creation and social media integration, equipping attendees with practical tools to establish an online presence and utilize digital platforms effectively.

Over 100 participants, including youths, students, and adults, benefited from the hands-on training. Free internet access was provided, enhancing the practical learning experience. The event ran from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, encouraged participants to harness the opportunities offered by the program, aligning with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision of empowering youths as job creators and self-reliant individuals.

Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, described the program as transformative, urging participants to embrace the continuous learning process to drive societal development.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to all participants, with 20 exceptional individuals receiving substantial data packages to further apply their newly acquired skills.

Beneficiaries like Ajayi Michael and Atunrase Taofeeq expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, calling for more such initiatives in rural areas. They lauded the transformative potential of digital empowerment for economic and personal growth.
