As the 2025 local government elections in Lagos State draw closer, the battle for the chairmanship of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has narrowed to two contenders: Hon. Ganiu, the current Secretary to the Local Government, and Councilor Saheed Omogbolahan Elewedu, the Majority Leader of the LCDA Legislative Arm.
Initially, no fewer than 12 aspirants had declared their interest to succeed the outgoing Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, who is set to complete his second term in July. However, reactions following a recent profile of four aspirants published by KosofePost indicate that political odds favor Ganiu and Elewedu.

Ganiu is known to be a staunch loyalist of Kosofe APC chieftain, Otunba Bushira Alebiosu, while Elewedu enjoys strong ties with the Agboyi-Ketu APC apex leadership. However, details remain unclear on which of the two will eventually emerge as the chairmanship candidate and who may settle for the vice-chairmanship position once party decisions become official.
Sources suggest that some other aspirants have been urged to collapse their campaign structures in favor of the duo, as a faction of the APC-aligned Mandate political group is reportedly working with Kosofe APC apex leaders to facilitate a smooth emergence of the preferred candidates.
In Nigeria’s political landscape, securing a party ticket is largely dependent on political consultations, party structure control, delegate influence, and the decisions of key stakeholders. Both Ganiu and Elewedu appear to have successfully persuaded the APC kingmakers, positioning themselves as the leading contenders ahead of the official campaign season.
