As the race for the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship gains momentum ahead of the 2025 elections, supporters of Comrade Abiodun Ogungbo have expressed confidence in his leadership potential, describing him as the best candidate to steer the council’s affairs.
Ayo Bakre, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member in Agboyi-Ketu and a staunch supporter of Ogungbo, dismissed reports suggesting a two-horse race for the council’s top seat. Speaking to Kosofe Post on Friday, Bakre insisted that Ogungbo is the people’s choice and enjoys overwhelming grassroots support.
“Comrade Abiodun Ogungbo is a household name in Kosofe politics, particularly in Agboyi-Ketu. He is a leading chairmanship aspirant with intimidating credentials—a consummate administrator who enjoys full grassroots support,” Bakre stated.
Highlighting Ogungbo’s educational background and career experience, Bakre emphasized that his principal’s track record sets him apart from other contenders. He noted that Ogungbo’s campaign efforts across the seven wards of Agboyi-Ketu have received widespread acceptance.
“His love for people speaks volumes. Though his campaign train has moved across the entire LCDA with visible acceptance, he remains a party loyalist and will abide by the decision of APC leaders,” Bakre added.
In a separate interview, another Ogungbo supporter, Alex Famous Araba, reinforced the aspirant’s credentials, asserting that after extensive consultations with party members and community leaders, Ogungbo remains the best candidate to succeed the outgoing chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo.
“After our interaction with party members and community leaders, it is clear that Comrade Abiodun Ogungbo is the best man for the job,” Araba said.
While acknowledging the party’s decision-making process, Araba maintained that it was premature to narrow the contest down to two aspirants. He expressed confidence that Ogungbo’s long-standing political involvement since the inception of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic would work in his favor once official campaign activities commence.
“Comrade Abiodun Ogungbo is a democrat to the core. He is ready to subject himself to the democratic process when the opportunity presents itself,” he added.
With the 2025 elections approaching, Agboyi-Ketu residents and APC stakeholders await the party’s final decision on the chairmanship race, as aspirants continue their strategic positioning.
