The political landscape of Kosofe Local Government is heating up as the contest for the chairmanship seat intensifies. At the center of the storm is Mr. Olayinka Rabiu, popularly known as Whytee, whose determined push to unseat the incumbent chairman, Mr. Moyosore Ogunlewe, has sparked debates among residents and party members alike. One question continues to linger—who is bankrolling Whytee?
Many observers believe that if the All Progressives Congress (APC) abandons its doctrine of party supremacy and allows a level playing field, Ogunlewe may struggle to secure his return ticket. The incumbent chairman’s controversial emergence in the last primaries—where he secured the APC ticket outside the influence of key Kosofe political kingmakers—fueled speculation of a political “abracadabra.” The kingmakers had reportedly backed Lanre Carew, who was leading in the inclusive primary election before Ogunlewe’s sudden victory.
However, despite initial tensions, Ogunlewe has since mended fences with the kingmakers. Strategic political maneuvers, including appointing one of their sons to replace the former vice chairman, HRM Babatunde Salisu Elebo II—now the monarch of Oworoshoki—have helped strengthen his position. Regular gifts, including cars and cash incentives, have also been extended to key supporters, seemingly securing their loyalty ahead of the election.
Despite these odds, Whytee remains resolute in his bid to challenge the status quo. His campaign insists that he is the best candidate for the job, promising to bring positive change, foster unity, and ensure inclusive governance. “With his passion for service and a deep understanding of our community’s needs, he stands ready to lead with integrity and innovation,” his campaign stated.
As the battle for Kosofe’s leadership intensifies, the political intrigue deepens. Will Ogunlewe’s strategic alliances secure his return, or will Whytee’s relentless push and rumored financial backing turn the tide? One thing is certain—the road to Kosofe’s chairmanship remains unpredictable.
