The Special Adviser on Environment to the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Hon. Fatoki Ayobode Kehinde, has dismissed accusations of political mediocrity and silence, asserting that his approach is a deliberate strategy rather than a sign of weakness.
His response comes after a recent report, War of Words: Opomulero Calls Out Hon. Fatoki Over Political Silence, where some Kosofe residents criticized his perceived lack of engagement. Addressing the concerns, Fatoki explained that while he was once a vocal student union activist, he has since embraced a different philosophy, inspired by his mentor, Chief Adebisi Akande. “I used to believe ‘Silence is a Crime,’ but I’ve learned that ‘Silence is Golden,’” he stated.
Refuting claims of mediocrity, Fatoki highlighted his extensive responsibilities beyond his official portfolio. “I oversee seven different committees, and I have delivered excellently,” he said, expressing gratitude to the council chairman for the opportunity to serve.
He also defended his decision to refrain from public criticism of the government, arguing that his role requires discretion. “As a Special Adviser, my duty is to provide necessary counsel behind closed doors, not to attack the institution I serve. Constructive criticism should come from the community, not from within the system,” he asserted.
On his potential candidacy for the upcoming local government elections, Fatoki remained cautious, emphasizing the need for strategic consultations. “Many aspirants are putting up banners and slogans—that’s their strategy. I have mine, and it’s best known to me. But let the umpire and party leadership speak,” he said.
Acknowledging the role of media in political discourse, Fatoki appreciated Kosofe Post CEO, Mr. Abayomi Bilesanmi, for fostering open dialogue and recalled being honored in 2018 as The Most Outstanding Supervising Councillor of the Year.
Fatoki reaffirmed his dedication to governance and community development, insisting that his silence is a mark of wisdom, not cowardice. “I am still outstanding, I am still outspoken, and my silence is golden,” he declared.
