Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo, the Special Adviser on Boundary Matters to the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, remains in detention at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, eight days after being granted bail due to difficulties in meeting the stipulated conditions.
Oyebanjo was arrested by the Nigerian police on March 11, 2025, following a petition he filed with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on October 23, 2024. The petition reportedly alleged financial mismanagement within the Kosofe Local Government Council.
He was subsequently arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court on charges of theft, possession of classified documents, and theft of documents. The charges were reportedly at the behest of the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe.

Chief Magistrate Olanrewaju Olatunji granted Oyebanjo bail set at ₦5 million, with conditions that include two sureties—one of whom must possess a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), while the other must have a bank account balance of at least ₦5 million.
Despite securing bail, Oyebanjo’s legal team has faced challenges in meeting these stringent requirements. The delay has been further compounded by the magistrate’s court not sitting for part of the week, slowing the processing of his release.
As of 3 PM on Wednesday, his legal representatives were still in search of suitable sureties to facilitate his release from custody.
