The shocking news of Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has left many loyal members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disheartened. While Jandor’s decision to return to his political roots may not be surprising, it raises serious questions about the leadership of the PDP and its handling of internal democracy.
Jandor, who defected from the APC to the PDP in the build-up to the 2023 elections, was controversially imposed as the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State. This decision sidelined dedicated, long-standing members of the PDP, many of whom had tirelessly worked to strengthen the party in the state. Despite resistance from the party’s grassroots, the leadership insisted on backing Jandor, ignoring the voices of those who had invested years in PDP’s growth.
Now, with his defection back to the APC, the consequences of that imposition are clear. Jandor’s departure is not just a betrayal of PDP supporters who rallied behind him; it is also a reflection of the missteps of the party’s leadership. The PDP must acknowledge that sidelining dedicated members for political expediency comes at a cost.
As a loyal PDP member, I call on the party’s leadership to take responsibility for this failure and engage in genuine introspection. The PDP must prioritize fairness, inclusivity, and internal democracy if it hopes to regain credibility and the trust of its members. This painful episode should serve as a lesson—our party deserves better.
