For the first time, Vanguard Newspaper has recognized an outstanding grassroots leader with the prestigious Grassroots Development Icon of the Year award. Among Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Kosofe, Lagos, emerged as the “001 of 774” for his exceptional contributions to community development.
Expressing his gratitude, Mayor Oshinowo described the recognition as a humbling affirmation of the transformational work being carried out in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
“To be acknowledged by a platform as respected and influential as Vanguard is truly humbling. It affirms the impactful work we have been doing—transforming communities, delivering life-changing projects, and prioritizing the well-being of our people,” he said.
He dedicated the award to the people of Agboyi-Ketu, his team, and all those who have supported his vision for grassroots governance.

The official award ceremony is scheduled for April 11th at the Vanguard Personality Awards, marking a significant moment for grassroots leadership and community-driven governance in Nigeria. The award underscores the growing recognition of local government administrators who are making tangible impacts in their communities.
