Days after Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, the lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, was appointed as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Council (NEC), key political figures from her constituency have yet to publicly acknowledge the milestone.
Ogbara’s nomination marks a historic first for Kosofe, but prominent political officeholders—including local council chairmen, the Chief Press Secretary, commissioners, and the two Lagos State House of Assembly members representing the constituency—have remained silent. Their failure to issue congratulatory messages has raised eyebrows, particularly as these figures are known for celebrating similar achievements by others, even for less significant political advancements.
The silence has fueled speculation that unresolved political tensions from the 2023 general elections continue to divide Kosofe’s APC leadership. Despite efforts at reconciliation, it appears that lingering grievances still shape the political landscape.
Meanwhile, aspirants for the upcoming local government elections in July have taken a different approach. Several contenders have personally congratulated Ogbara, distinguishing themselves from the mainstream political leadership in Kosofe.
The development raises questions about the state of unity within the Kosofe APC and whether shifting political alliances could influence the party’s dynamics ahead of the local government polls.
