Political tensions are escalating within the Kosofe Federal Constituency as local party stakeholders remind federal lawmaker and newly appointed APC National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, that political relevance is built from the grassroots.
Despite her recent national recognition, reports suggest that Ogbara’s influence at the local level remains limited, with control over party structures still in the hands of Local Government Chairmen and established political kingmakers. A key flashpoint is the compilation of the party’s agents list for the upcoming local elections, which allegedly excluded many of her loyalists.
Political observers argue that Ogbara’s NEC appointment has not necessarily translated into greater influence within Kosofe’s political landscape. Many of the same stakeholders who controlled the delegate list for her 2023 primary election continue to dominate the constituency’s political affairs.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Ogbara may need to consolidate her support base during the next ward and LGA congresses to position her loyalists in key party structures. Alternatively, she could leverage her NEC position to challenge the status quo and reshape the power dynamics within the local party framework.
Amid these internal struggles, political analysts suggest that reconciliation with Kosofe’s key power brokers may be her best path forward, ensuring party unity ahead of future electoral contests.
