Social Media Fraudster Impersonates BisconTV Cameraman to Solicit Funds

A social media fraud scheme has been uncovered after reports emerged that an individual identified as David Daniel has been impersonating,Olumide Olusoga fondly called Otunba Balaabe, Head of the Camera Department at BisconTV, to solicit money online.

The fraudulent activity came to light when screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation surfaced, showing an account using Balaabe’s photo and name to request N5,000 under the guise of an urgent medical need. The scammer claimed they would return the money the next day after making a bank withdrawal.

Reacting to the development, Balaabe issued a warning via his Facebook page, urging the public to disregard and report any fraudulent accounts using his identity. He made it clear that he has no connection to the messages being circulated and is not seeking financial assistance.

“This is a scam. I am not requesting money from anyone. Please be cautious and report any suspicious accounts,” Balaabe stated.

This incident underscores the rising threat of online impersonation and financial fraud, highlighting the need for vigilance in verifying identities before sending money. Authorities and social media users are urged to remain alert and report such fraudulent attempts to curb further exploitation.

For now, the public is advised to ignore any financial requests allegedly from Otunba Balaabe and to take necessary precautions against online scams.
