Political tension is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kosofe Local Government as Hon. Adedeji Taiwo, popularly known as “Black Jesus,” officially declared his intention to contest for the Ifako Ward C councilorship seat in the forthcoming local government elections.
Taiwo, who currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters to the Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, is emerging as a formidable challenger to the incumbent, Hon. Femi Oyesile. His declaration has sparked fresh dynamics within the party, with insiders describing his ambition as a major threat to Oyesile’s re-election bid.
Critics of the incumbent councilor argue that his first term has been underwhelming, pointing to what they describe as a lack of visible projects and meaningful grassroots engagement. Oyesile, who came into office nearly four years ago, reportedly benefitted from the political backing of APC stalwart, Omoba Olumuyiwa Sosanya, who had influenced the ouster of former councilor Ibrahim Bakare at the time.
However, political watchers say the tide may now be turning. With Taiwo’s rising popularity and reputation for community engagement, even party loyalists are beginning to shift allegiance. Desmond Ojajuni, another aide to the Council Chairman, has publicly referred to Taiwo as the “incoming councilor of Ifako Ward C,” fueling speculations about internal party realignments.
A party source who spoke with KosofePost on condition of anonymity suggested that Sosanya may be willing to sacrifice Oyesile’s return for broader political interests. “There’s a growing belief that Omoba Sosanya is eyeing the Vice Chairman seat for his son, Oluwole Sosanya. If that’s the case, Oyesile’s second term may be a casualty of that arrangement,” the source said, describing the maneuver as a “doctrine of necessity.”
Meanwhile, the Labour Party is positioning itself to capitalize on the APC’s internal frictions. Its candidate, Ambassador Moyosore Badejo, widely known as “Moyo of Gbagada,” has promised to upend the status quo with a people-focused, grassroots-driven campaign.
