A suspected car thief, identified as Oluwafemi Oladapo, has been apprehended by members of the Oyanbo Vigilante Group for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry, popularly known as “pencil Camry,” in the Alapere area of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.

Oladapo was arrested during an attempted car theft in the Omitoro area of Ikorodu, following an alarm raised by residents around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday. In a video obtained from his interrogation at the vigilante office, the suspect confessed to the crime, stating that it was his second attempt at stealing a vehicle.

He revealed that his first successful operation took place in Alapere in December last year, and the stolen car was sold in the Gate area of Ibadan, Oyo State, for N500,000. According to him, the buyer requested that parts of the car be damaged to make it appear as a vehicle involved in an accident. The transaction was reportedly done without any documentation and under the pretense of selling it as scrap.

Oladapo, who resides in the Ogolonto-Idiroko area of Ikorodu, claimed he is married with children and hails from Ishara in Ogun State. He also disclosed that he is a member of the Eiye Confraternity, which he joined in 2012 at Alapere. He alleged that cult meetings are frequently held within the riverine Agboyi-Odo community in the LCDA.

Narrating the events leading to his arrest, Oladapo said he attempted to deceive the residents by claiming that an auto mechanic had instructed him to repair the car. However, his explanation failed to convince the crowd, leading to his arrest after a brief pursuit.

He further admitted to having no formal training in car theft but claimed he already knew how to drive.

Local authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement or community security groups.
