Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mayor Dele Oshinowo, has emerged as the Grassroots Development Icon of the Year at the 2025 edition of the Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards, becoming the first recipient of the newly introduced category.
The award, which also recognises him as the Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria, was presented during a high-profile ceremony held in Lagos on Friday night. The honour comes in recognition of Oshinowo’s notable contributions to community development and his track record of excellence in grassroots governance.
Reacting to the announcement in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Oshinowo expressed appreciation to the organisers and dedicated the award to the people of Agboyi-Ketu.
“Being named the Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria is not just a win for me, it’s a win for the vision we’ve carried, the work we’ve put in, and the belief that true development begins at the grassroots,” he wrote.
Describing the moment as “surreal,” the council boss reflected on his journey in public service and reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing development projects in the LCDA.
“I was elected to work and I’ve been working. And I will not stop,” he stated.
Oshinowo also used the opportunity to thank his team, political allies, and residents of Agboyi-Ketu for their continued support, declaring, “This is your win too.”
Ending his post on a celebratory note, he wrote: “Say hello to the Man of the Year!”
Mayor Oshinowo’s latest recognition adds to a growing list of accolades that highlight his proactive approach to local governance, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, youth empowerment, healthcare, and education.
