Lekan Lawal, Publisher of Kosofe Inside Out, has recounted his first encounter with Hon. Afolabi Kazeem, popularly known as ABK, the former Executive Secretary of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), describing him as a rare breed among political office holders.

Lawal shared that during ABK’s short stint in office, Kosofe Inside Out published a feature highlighting the council’s programmes and projects. Despite having no prior relationship or formal request, Lawal presented a copy of the publication to ABK, who responded with unexpected generosity.

“ABK appreciated the publication, immediately asked for my account number, and credited me with an undisclosed amount,” Lawal said. “I was stunned. It was a moment that left me smiling to the bank.”

Described by some as a “techno-political repository,” ABK is widely respected for his humility and generosity. Observers say if more political aides and loyalists mirrored ABK’s approach to media engagement and human relations, it would significantly enhance the public image of their principals.

Bilesanmi Abayomi-KOKO, Publisher of KosofePost, also shared a similar experience. During a 2019 visit to ValueJet GRA, Lagos, for an interview with Councillor Deji Osinowo, ABK reportedly arrived and warmly acknowledged the role of the media. Days later, he responded to a birthday tribute published by KosofePost with a token of appreciation delivered through his aides.

ABK’s generosity extended beyond the media. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he partnered with friend and philanthropist Mr. Kunle Soname to distribute palliatives across the Kosofe Federal Constituency. Local media outlets also benefited from the gesture.

His support for the media has remained consistent. ABK has backed the coverage of events involving Remo Stars Football Club and other community activities in Ikenne, Ogun State. More recently, noticing a decline in media presence at events in his LCDA, ABK took it upon himself to sponsor full media coverage, sending out formal invitations and covering costs.

Fondly called “Baba Eto,” ABK is lauded for his maturity, wisdom, and peaceful disposition. Many stakeholders in Kosofe and beyond believe his leadership style sets an example in good governance, especially in how political office holders engage with the public and the press.
