It rained goals and rewards at the Remo Stars Stadium on Friday as Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, cruised to a 4-0 win over Algeria in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier — and their brilliance did not go unnoticed.

Nigeria’s top sports entrepreneur and Remo Stars FC founder, Hon. Kunle Soname, led the charge in celebrating the team’s dazzling display, doling out a whopping ₦4 million to the squad — ₦1 million for each goal scored. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) added their support, contributing ₦2 million at ₦500,000 per goal, bringing the total incentive to ₦6 million.

The Flamingos came out firing from the first whistle, scoring three times in the opening 16 minutes. Queen Joseph set the tone with goals in the 3rd and 16th minutes, while Zainab Oluwaseun added one in the 13th minute. Aishat Animashaun sealed the victory with a late strike in the 90th minute, leaving the Algerians with no answers and fans at Ikenne in raptures.

The financial boost not only rewards the team’s blistering start to the tie but also raises morale ahead of the second leg in Algiers next weekend.
With one foot in Morocco for the 2025 U-17 Women’s World Cup, the Flamingos are now highly motivated to finish the job and claim their ticket.
