In a surprising political development, Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor and former chairmanship aspirant, Oromidayo Balogun, has officially declared his intention to contest in the upcoming Ikosi-Isheri Local Government chairmanship election.

Balogun, who previously sought the seat, has re-emerged on the political scene ahead of the July local government elections in Lagos State, reigniting interest and speculation within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and among local political stakeholders.

He was among the first aspirants to obtain the APC expression of interest and nomination forms at the party’s secretariat in Acme, Ikeja, signaling a renewed ambition just as the party commenced its internal selection process. The APC recently released its guidelines for the primaries, setting the stage for what is expected to be a tightly contested race.

According to Kosofe Post, at least 15 aspirants have so far declared interest in succeeding the incumbent chairperson, Princess Samiat Bada. Balogun’s entry, alongside another surprise contender, has been noted for its timing, as both aspirants kept their intentions under wraps until the APC primary schedule was announced.

With the race gathering momentum, Balogun’s return is expected to reshape the dynamics of the contest in Ikosi-Isheri, as political observers closely monitor how his candidacy might shift alliances and strategies within the APC fold.
