The political arena is one big theatre of spectacle where maverick players take centre stage. Many come up stage too quickly. Some arrive early enough. Yet, others arrive at the twilight of the show for maximum effect, just the proverbial big Yoruba masquerade that announce its presence late with a spellbound entrance at the village square.
If there is a politician who knows the intricacies of the game so well, abides by its and is adapt at showing up on the scene at the auspicious time, Loogun Oyekunle fits the bill effortlessly. What better stage to enact such time-honored spectacle than Ikosi-Isheri LCA that is tthe epic centre of such a political jungle as thick as Kosofe LGA.
Though, a sea of aspirants currently eyes the coveted seat of council chairman, a lone winner will eventually emerge from a narrowed list of serious contenders. Evidently, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has its work cut out for it in the onerous task of separating the wheat from the chaff at the party primary and bringing its best feet forward in keenly-contested local council elections.
To scale through the first hurdle of party primary and eventually emerge as the APC standard bearer for the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Chairmanship election, Loogun Oyekunle Jegede earlier joined fellow Chairmanship aspirants from the 57 LGAs/LCDAs, who had thronged the Acme Road party secretariat in Ogba for similar purpose.
Accompanied by a handful of loyalists who were caught up in the beehive of activities that the party secretariat has become since the release of election timetable by LASIEC, the eminent party stalwart picked the Chairmanship Nomination and Expression of Intent Forms earlier today to signal his aspiration to the party hierarchy.
With the the first step taken today, the erstwhile APC Chair of Chair for Lagos East Senatorial District has formally thrown his hat in the ring for the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Chairmanship race. His rich political CV coupled with an impeccable track record, no doubt, stands him out of a crowd of aspirants.
The big masquerade has arrived at the village square and he has done so at the right time.
