A recently circulated video has ignited conversations across Nigeria about the perception of manual workers in Europe, particularly the United Kingdom. In the video, some individuals, based on limited knowledge and prevailing stereotypes, labeled Nigerians working in construction and other skilled trades abroad as “mere plumbers” or “ordinary handymen,” reflecting the negative attitude often associated with such professions back home.

In response, Toyyib Adelodun, a UK-based content creator, posted a video aimed at correcting these misconceptions. In his educational post, Adelodun highlighted the lucrative earning potential for skilled workers in the UK, citing roles such as electricians, bricklayers, plumbers, and site engineers, with wages ranging from £13 to £25 per hour.

Adelodun also outlined the processes involved in securing a skilled worker visa and emphasized the value of vocational training. He stressed that trades traditionally considered low-status in Nigeria are not only well respected in the UK but also provide a path to financial independence and professional dignity.

His post has been widely praised as a timely intervention, offering a fresh perspective on vocational skills and advocating for a shift in societal attitudes towards manual work both at home and abroad.
