Contrary to earlier denials, Honourable Azeez Olayinka Rabiu, popularly known as “Whytee,” has formally withdrawn from the Kosofe Local Government chairmanship race.

An official withdrawal letter dated May 9, 2025, and addressed to the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), confirms Rabiu’s decision to exit the contest ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled for Saturday, May 10.

In the letter obtained by KosofePost, Rabiu cited the party’s push for consensus candidacy as a major factor in his decision, describing it as a move made after “deep reflection and with a heavy heart.”

“This decision was not made lightly,” the statement read. “It follows profound soul-searching and a painful weighing of personal dreams against the greater good of our party and community.”

Rabiu, who was the sole challenger to incumbent Chairman Honourable Moyosore Ogunlewe, noted that stepping down should not be viewed as a retreat, but rather as a reaffirmation of his loyalty to the APC and commitment to party unity. “I remain steadfast in spirit and hopeful for the future we are building together,” he added.

He also expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to contest and extended his support to all aspirants participating in the forthcoming local government general elections.

With his withdrawal, the path appears clearer for the emergence of a consensus candidate in Kosofe, in line with the APC’s broader strategy for internal harmony ahead of the polls.

KosofePost will provide updates as events continue to unfold.
