Bilesanmi Abayomi, popularly known as KOKO and publisher of the digital news platform Kosofe Post, has joined the people of Kosofe in mourning the death of Hon. Sunday Adewale Omofojoye, councillor representing Ward A in the Oworonshoki area of Kosofe Local Government.
In a heartfelt tribute, KOKO reflected on his last public engagement with the late councillor during a campaign flag-off in 2011. A photo from the event—now widely shared following the tragic news—captured Omofojoye applauding KOKO, a moment the publisher says has taken on new meaning in light of the councillor’s passing.
“That photograph reminds me of his warmth and encouragement. It’s painful to lose someone who once stood so strongly for his people,” KOKO said.
Omofojoye was admired during his first term for his philanthropic spirit and commitment to grassroots development. However, during his second term, some constituents expressed disappointment, unaware that he was battling a terminal illness. His death came as a shock to many who had not known the extent of his health challenges.
KOKO used the moment to highlight the urgent need for improved healthcare across Nigeria, urging leaders at all levels of government to treat access to healthcare as a fundamental right.
“Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege reserved for the elite,” he said. “We must create a system where every Nigerian, regardless of social or political status, can live and thrive.”
He also called on citizens, particularly those involved in politics, to reconsider the personal demands they place on public officials. “Instead of overburdening office holders with personal requests, let’s focus on demanding essential public services like education, healthcare, and good roads,” he added.
As Kosofe residents continue to grieve, tributes are being paid to Omofojoye’s life of service and dedication to his community.
