As the July 12 local government elections approach, political tensions in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have taken a new turn, following scathing remarks by a concerned resident, Mr. Taiwo Adekunle A., who criticised the Coalition of Chairmanship Aspirants for lacking the moral compass and unity to present a credible alternative candidate.
Adekunle’s comments come amid controversy surrounding the newly signed Lagos State Local Government Administration Law, which appears to disqualify the current Chairperson, Hon. Samiat Abolanle Bada, from seeking another term, having previously completed the tenure of her late predecessor before securing a fresh mandate in 2021.
Reacting to the coalition’s vocal opposition to Bada’s perceived third-term ambition, Adekunle accused the group of being driven more by personal ambition than public service.
“One of the greatest threats to good governance and democracy today is the rise of political jobbers and opportunists—individuals who view politics not as a platform for service but as a business venture for personal gain,” he stated.
He further questioned the sincerity of the aspirants’ sudden alliance, describing it as “suspicious” and lacking cohesion.
“At present, the political situation has forced all the aspirants into a sudden and suspicious unity. Yet, despite this show of alliance, none of them possess the moral authority to present a single, unified candidate. To me, they are unserious individuals who lack the vision and integrity required to lead,” he added.
While clarifying that he is not aligned with either Hon. Bada or the coalition, Adekunle said his criticism stemmed from a desire to see credible leadership emerge in the LCDA.
“I wish the people of Ikosi-Isheri the best candidate who can take them to the promised land. Just my opinion,” he concluded.
The remarks have added another layer of tension to an already charged political atmosphere in Ikosi-Isheri, where stakeholders are closely monitoring how party dynamics and legal interpretations will shape the final outcome of the upcoming polls.
