The Ijebu Youth March For New State has joined the people of Ijebuland in mourning the passing of the highly esteemed monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
In an emotional tribute, the Convener of the group, Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, described the late monarch as a beacon of truth, justice, and wisdom. His six-decade reign, he said, was instrumental in shaping the socio-cultural and political landscape of Ijebuland.
“Oba Adetona was not just a traditional ruler, but a father figure and tireless advocate for the Ijebu people’s identity and progress,” stated Akilo. “His voice was a moral compass, and his leadership laid the foundation for our ongoing call for the creation of Ijebu State.”
The youth group also commended the monarch’s steadfast support for inclusive leadership, emphasizing his belief in empowering women. “He recognized women as pillars of peace, unity, and progress,” Akilo added. “His encouragement of women-led initiatives was one of the many aspects of his leadership that will be sorely missed.”
Reaffirming their commitment to continuing Oba Adetona’s vision, the group pledged to uphold the ideals he stood for, particularly the quest for the creation of Ijebu State.
In a joint statement signed by Comrade Amb. Flourish Ayọmikun O., Director of Media and Programs, the group extended heartfelt prayers for the peaceful transition of the revered monarch. The statement also called upon Ijebu sons and daughters to unite and honor the enduring legacy left behind by the late king.
