As the tenure of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, draws to a close next week, tributes have continued to pour in from residents, stakeholders, and members of the media, highlighting his leadership, accessibility, and grassroots connection.
Oshinowo, who served as Executive Chairman under Kosofe Local Government Area, is widely regarded for his transformative governance and strong ties to his community. While he may be stepping down from office, many say his impact will remain long after his departure.
“He Never Forgot His Roots”
A notable media practitioner, who grew up in Anthony Village alongside the outgoing chairman, recalled a defining moment in 2018 during a media event held to mark Oshinowo’s first six months in office.
Despite having been out of touch for nearly two decades, the chairman instantly recognized him and interrupted an aide who attempted a formal introduction.
“You don’t need to introduce him. I know him well. We grew up together,” Oshinowo said at the time.

To many, this moment summed up the chairman’s style: warm, grounded, and deeply connected to people beyond politics.
A Chairman With a Human Side
At the unveiling of the Welift initiative, another striking encounter was witnessed by Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo. After a brief exchange, Oshinowo called out to the journalist and said, in Yoruba, “Wa ma treat me officially?” A humorous yet meaningful reminder of their personal rapport.
Observers say such moments reflect the human side of Oshinowo’s leadership, one marked by humility and relational sincerity, even amid official responsibilities.
Farewell Gift Reflects Thoughtfulness
In 2023, just days before the same journalist relocated to the United Kingdom, Oshinowo reportedly sent a personal gift of ₦500,000 as a farewell gesture. The recipient noted that it was unsolicited and unexpected, a gesture that captured the chairman’s generosity and attentiveness.
A Media-Friendly Chairman
At a time when media freedoms are often strained at the local government level, Oshinowo earned respect for his openness and media-friendly disposition. Independent and community-focused platforms often found a willing partner in the outgoing chairman, who believed in the importance of visibility for grassroots issues.
“He didn’t joke with the media. He always made room for local journalists and supported community news,” the journalist added.
A Legacy Beyond Office
As Oshinowo’s administration concludes, many say his legacy is not only in projects or programmes, but in the personal stories of those he touched, from residents to professionals, friends to strangers.
“You may forget his titles, but not how he made you feel, seen, heard, remembered, and respected,” one tribute read.
The outgoing chairman is expected to hand over to a successor in the coming days, but his imprint on Agboyi-Ketu and beyond appears firmly cemented.
