A quiet but intense political contest is unfolding across Kosofe Local Government Area and its Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) over the selection of new cabinet members.
Local Government Chairmen, federal lawmakers, political leaders, and influential stakeholders are actively lobbying for their preferred candidates, leveraging this post-election moment to assert influence and reward loyalty.
While many of the nominees being considered are qualified, the real currency appears to be political sponsorship. Backing from powerful figures is proving more decisive than merit or grassroots popularity in shaping the emerging cabinets.
This dynamic has left many popular grassroots politicians — with strong community support but limited political clout — at risk of being edged out of contention.
The appointments, once finalized, will not only shape governance at the local level but also set the tone for intra-party relationships and power alignments ahead of future political contests in Kosofe.
