The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, joined residents of Oworonshoki over the weekend to celebrate Hon. Christianah Kuboye, the first female councillor in Kosofe. The victory party was held in honour of her successful election and her emergence as Chief Whip of the 8th Legislative Council.
The event brought together principal officers of the Kosofe Legislative Arm, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Femi Oyesile, in a show of support and solidarity. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and marked a moment of unity among a section of the legislative council.
However, the absence of three councillors—Hon. Abayomi Elugbidin, Hon. Oluwagbenga David, and Hon. Baruwa Sulyman—highlighted the underlying fractures within the legislative body. Their no-show pointed to ongoing tensions following the recent leadership tussle within the council.
Hon. Kuboye and some of her allies had reportedly gone against party instructions by backing Hon. Femi Oyesile for the position of Leader of the House, defying the preferences of influential leaders in the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), who had endorsed another candidate. The defiance led to a significant political upset, with the GAC’s preferred aspirant losing the contest—an outcome that continues to fuel controversy and deepen mistrust among key party stakeholders.
Despite the political undercurrents, the celebration in Oworonshoki offered a moment of reprieve and recognition for Hon. Kuboye’s trailblazing achievements, even as the party grapples with internal realignments.
