A tense scene played out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday, August 5, 2025, when popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, became the subject of a security incident involving airport officials and a pilot with ValueJet Airlines.
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the drama began at the domestic terminal as the musician attempted to board a ValueJet morning flight to Lagos. In his possession was a liquid substance contained in a flask, which reportedly exceeded the 100ml limit permitted by aviation safety regulations. This threshold, which applies to all passengers unless the substance is medically necessary and duly declared, forms part of global aviation security protocols.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, stated in a press release that the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team, alongside the flight’s captain, cautioned the musician about the violation. Rather than comply, the passenger allegedly insisted on proceeding with the substance. Matters escalated when he reportedly poured the contents of the flask—later identified as alcohol—on one of the security officers. The pilot intervened but was also allegedly met with defiance.
After the aircraft doors were shut, the situation further intensified as the musician moved to the front of the cabin and declined to leave when instructed. It took the intervention of the AVSEC crime unit to restore order. The artist was escorted off the aircraft for questioning and was later released as investigations commenced.
FAAN has since condemned the altercation, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on any action that threatens the integrity of flight operations or the safety of its personnel. The authority assured that the matter remains under investigation and that appropriate legal steps will be taken if necessary.
While the incident continues to generate reactions among the public, FAAN has used the opportunity to reaffirm its dedication to safeguarding Nigerian airspace. It emphasized that respect for aviation protocols is non-negotiable, regardless of status or profession, and pledged to continue upholding international best practices in all its airports across the country.
