Lagos LG Election Tribunal Begins Sitting

Lagos, August 12, 2025 – The Lagos State Local Government Election Tribunal has commenced sitting to hear petitions arising from the July 12 local government elections conducted across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

According to KosofePost, the tribunal’s proceedings are being held at the High Court, Race Course. Among the petitioners is Ikosi-Isheri LCDA PDP chairmanship candidate, Shogbesan Olaoluwa. While the specifics of his petition remain undisclosed, the matter has been adjourned to Monday, August 18, 2025.

In a separate matter, an unnamed civil society group, represented by legal counsel from the Femi Falana Chambers, has filed a suit against the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and Samiat Bada. The suit alleges breaches of the Local Government Administrative Law 2025, signed into law by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on May 7, 2025.

The case, assigned to Justice M.A. Lawal, has been delayed due to the ongoing judicial vacation. Sources also disclosed that Justice Lawal’s registrar is currently on leave and is expected to resume by the end of August, leaving further details of the case unclear for now.
