Political tensions in Kosofe Local Government have intensified as the race for the leadership of its legislative arm heats up, with a defamation dispute now adding to the drama among returning councillors.
Honourable Baruwa Sulaimon, representing Ward F, Ojota, has moved to protect his reputation following allegations that some of his colleagues branded him a “thief,” “fraudster,” and “419” in connection with a disputed land transaction.

In a letter dated August 11, 2025, and signed by his counsel, Rotimi Seriki (SAN) of Rotimi Seriki & Co., four councillors — Adebare Olalekan, Femi Oyeshile, Hakeem Oshijirin, and Christianah Kuboye — were accused of making the remarks in the presence of influential political figures, including APC leader Otunba Bushura Alebiosu (popularly known as Baba Bush).
Baruwa’s legal team clarified that while one land deal between him and Councillor Saliu was completed without issue, a second transaction collapsed over disputes regarding the property. They said Baruwa refunded the full purchase price and added ₦300,000, stressing that Saliu has never accused him of any wrongdoing and that the two remain on cordial terms.

The letter warned that the comments could damage Baruwa’s political standing ahead of the selection of the 8th Legislative Assembly’s leader. The accused councillors have been given seven days to issue a written apology, circulate it to key political leaders in Kosofe, or face legal proceedings seeking general and exemplary damages.
Closing his warning, Seriki wrote: “A stitch in time saves nine. Be warned.”
