The Ogun State chapter of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel to end their political differences in the interest of peace and development in the state.
In a communiqué issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the group described the growing tension between the two political leaders as “disheartening” and warned that it could distract from governance, polarise the citizenry, and slow down development efforts.
Afenifere acknowledged the contributions of both Governor Abiodun and Senator Daniel to Ogun’s progress, but cautioned that political disagreements should not degenerate into public confrontations.
The group called on Yoruba elders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community groups, and other political stakeholders to urgently step in and mediate between the two.
“As custodians of Yoruba political and cultural heritage, it is our collective duty to preserve unity, promote dialogue, and uphold the dignity of leadership at all levels,” the communiqué read.
It further urged Governor Abiodun to reconsider any move to demolish three properties belonging to Senator Daniel in Sagamu, stressing that reconciliation should take precedence over punitive measures.
Quoting the adage, “Power is transient, but legacy is enduring,” Afenifere urged both leaders to rise above personal and political grievances and embrace dialogue in the service of the people.
The statement was signed by Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, Assistant Publicity Secretary, and Chief Kehinde Oladeinde, General Secretary of the Ogun State chapter.
