The lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, has been conferred with a traditional title by community leaders even as calls mount for her to give account of her performance at the National Assembly.

The Olu of Agboyi, Oba Monsuro Abimbola Oladega, over the weekend bestowed on Ogbara the title of “Yeye Asoludero,” meaning “one who is peacemaker, unifier, or protector of community order and wellbeing and trustworthy.” The monarch said the honour was in recognition of the legislator’s contributions to community development.

The development comes amid growing public debate on whether lawmakers should periodically render accounts of their stewardship. While some critics insist that Ogbara, now two years into her term, should provide a record of her performance, her supporters argue it is still too early to make such demands.

It will be recalled that members of the National Assembly are entitled to facilitate constituency projects running into hundreds of millions of naira through different ministries, departments and agencies. While some lawmakers have received commendation for visible projects, others have been criticised for allegedly diverting such funds.

For Ogbara, the traditional recognition adds a new layer to the ongoing conversation about her role in the constituency, with her new title positioning her as a trusted figure among the grassroots.
