Residents of Kosofe have raised concerns over the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, lamenting severe traffic disruptions and prolonged travel times along the corridor.

The Lagos State Government recently resumed work on the bridge after reviewing its traffic management plan. However, commuters say the current schedule is worsening gridlock and compounding daily hardship.

Social commentator, Omoba Awofeso Rasheed, described the situation as unbearable and urged the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to step up efforts in managing vehicular movement.

Àare Fatoki Ayobode Kehinde, a resident of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, while commending the government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, advised that the repair works should be executed at night.

“I always felt the construction should have been embarked on between 11pm and 4am when office workers must have gotten home. Timing is key to reducing hardship for road users,” he said.

Similarly, Otunba Dehinde Shonibare noted that while rehabilitation is necessary, poor timing of the project could endanger lives, particularly during medical emergencies.

“Our lives and manpower are important, just as infrastructure development is. The government should consider better timing arrangements for such projects,” he added.

Residents are therefore appealing to representatives and relevant authorities to review the construction schedule in order to ease congestion while ensuring timely completion of the project.
