The Legislative Arm of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has denied reports that its members deliberately ignored an invitation to a Back-to-School programme organised by Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, member representing Kosofe Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
Reacting to the claims, the Majority Leader of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Adekoya Gbadegoke, in a statement made available to Kosofe Post on Saturday, said no official invitation was extended to the lawmakers either through a formal letter or via WhatsApp.
“You can confirm from our Council Leader, Hon. Onikosi Ismail. We would not like the integrity of the 6th Legislative Assembly of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA to be dragged into the mud,” Gbadegoke stated.
He explained that while it is within the right of any individual to invite councillors to events, the assembly never received any form of correspondence from the federal lawmaker.
“We will be glad to see a received copy of such a letter of invitation or a screenshot of any WhatsApp message directed to our official group platform or personally to the Council Leader, who is the custodian of authority of the legislative assembly,” he added.
Gbadegoke clarified that any councillor who attended Ogbara’s event did so in a personal capacity, exercising their fundamental right to freedom of association, and not as an official representative of the legislative arm.
The clarification follows reports suggesting that only one councillor from Ikosi-Isheri was present at the programme, a development interpreted in some quarters as a political snub.
