Mixed reactions have trailed the reported ambition of Hon. Adejumoke Animawun, Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Assistant Secretary, who has begun consultations to contest the Kosofe Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.

While some political stakeholders have dismissed her aspiration as unserious, others argue it should be encouraged, particularly as a step toward promoting women’s participation in politics.

Engr. Olusola Emmanuel Adedayo, Publisher and CEO of MoschinoBlog, described Animawun as a “pretender” who would “fizzle out among the gladiators.” According to him, she lacked the capacity to mobilize supporters even within her ward in Anthony.

Similarly, Oloye Salami Oluwaseun maintained that Kosofe Constituency I had a history of producing formidable lawmakers and would not compromise standards for what he called a “mere comedy aspiration.” He further alleged that Animawun’s performance as APC State Assistant Secretary had been “controversial and below expectation,” stressing that competence should not be traded for political inclusion.

However, political commentator Ola’ Obasan countered these criticisms, describing them as premature and unfair. He argued that leadership should not be measured solely by crowd size but by integrity, vision, and capacity to serve. Obasan also called for greater support for women in politics.

“The electorate, not a few voices, will decide who wins elections,” Obasan said. “Many leaders once dismissed as paperweights later emerged as champions of their communities. Kosofe deserves leaders chosen on merit, not prejudice.”

The debate underscores rising tensions within Kosofe’s APC political circles, with Animawun’s aspiration now a subject of scrutiny and divergent opinions as the 2027 elections draw closer.
