The publisher of KosofePost, Bilesanmi Abayomi, popularly known as Koko, has shared insights into his journey and motivation as he advances his professional journalism training with the London School of Journalism (LSJ).
In his personal statement, Abayomi reflected on his early inspiration and enduring passion for the media profession. Born in Lagos in the 1970s, he traced his love for journalism to Nigeria’s 1992 political struggle, recalling how, as a young schoolboy selling newspapers, he became fascinated by the power of the press to shape opinions.
Abayomi earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Lagos State University in the 2008/2009 academic session. Despite his background in technology, his deep interest in media and communication spurred him to pursue further training at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and in Science Communication for Journalism.
Motivated by his commitment to community-driven reporting, he founded KosofePost.com about 14 years ago — a hyperlocal online newspaper covering politics, economy, social issues, and technology within the Kosofe area and across Lagos State.
Abayomi described himself as “disciplined and enthusiastic,” sharing that his daily routines include morning walks, gym sessions, and a love for music and travel — activities he says keep him inspired and broaden his worldview.
Speaking on his enrolment at the London School of Journalism, Abayomi said his goal is to sharpen his storytelling and reporting skills, while deepening his understanding of global journalism standards.
“I hope to gain expertise in newsgathering and reporting in an international setting,” he stated, emphasizing his vision of blending community journalism with global best practices.
