Tension has gripped Ferry Community in the Kosofe area of Lagos State following the reported arrival of caterpillars on Friday morning, allegedly deployed to begin another round of demolition in the area.

Residents, who raised the alarm over the development through KosofeNews Updates, accused the Lagos State Government of “inhuman treatment,” noting that previous demolition exercises had already led to widespread hardship, sickness, and displacement.

A community leader, Comrade Taiwo Omotehinse, in a message circulated early Saturday morning, expressed concern that the government’s actions were worsening the living conditions of residents rather than improving them.

“What kind of government is this that wants to kill its people? This morning, they brought caterpillars to our street in Ferry Community. They want to start demolition again. Where do they expect us to go? Even from the last demolition, many people became sick, some died, and others were displaced,” Omotehinse said.

He lamented that a government constitutionally charged with protecting lives and property was instead “rendering citizens homeless,” warning that such actions could affect the political fortunes of the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omotehinse appealed to elected representatives from Kosofe, including Hon. Kafilat Ogbara and Senator Tokunbo Abiru, to urgently intervene and halt what he described as an “injustice against the people.”

“I am using this medium to appeal to Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and all other public office holders in Kosofe to come to our aid because our people are dying. Government should be after the welfare of its people, not killing them,” he said.

Another resident, identified as Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo, called on Omotehinse and other community members to reach out directly to the lawmakers, stressing that they might not be online to see the circulated message immediately. He also encouraged residents to share the alert widely to attract urgent attention to the situation.

As of press time, efforts to reach the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency and the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development for comments were unsuccessful.
